ABOUT PROMISE
VILLAGE ACADEMY
Our mission is both bold and essential: To eradicate poverty through education, one child at a time. We are building a future where every child has the resources, knowledge, and encouragement needed to succeed, regardless of their circumstances. We strive to cultivate leaders, innovators, and change-makers who will positively transform their communities from within.
THRIVING TOGETHER.
OUR STORY.
Because of our passion for empowering others and for education, we dreamed of a way to make an impact on this Maasai community, which the world is increasingly leaving behind. We are blessed to dedicate our time, energy, and resources to give impoverished Maasai children opportunities they would not otherwise have. We are grateful to serve these children by creating educational opportunities and promoting a path for the reduction of poverty.
Promise Village Academy opened for preschoolers in July 2019. Our students immediately gained access to clean water, clean clothes, two healthy meals a day, computers, and books to read. Additional grades have been added each year, and now classes are offered from pre-school through 5th grade. Educational content tracks the national curriculum, and instruction is primarily in English, which will allow our graduates to communicate throughout Tanzania and beyond, opening up a whole new world for them and their families. We also provide water wells in the villages our students come from so that access to clean water is no longer a burden for their families and communities.
Promise Village Academy will continue adding a grade per year until we fill out all grade levels, offering an incredible opportunity for these children to grow up with our physical and educational care ever present until one day soon they will begin to raise their community out of poverty. As we work towards expanding educational opportunities for all ages, we are humbled by the many nonprofits and donors who have chosen to join with us on this journey to make dreams come true.
Education is one of the most effective ways to break cycles of poverty and inequality. According to UNESCO, each additional year of schooling can increase a girl's future earnings by up to 20% and reduce the likelihood of child marriage and teenage pregnancy. For communities like the Maasai, where 58% of girls experience female genital mutilation and 52% become teenage mothers, education equips girls with the knowledge and confidence to advocate for their rights, improving health, life expectancy, and economic opportunities for generations to come.
